Summary

I love that it gave strategies for calming down when you feel upset。 I didn’t love the example of not getting dessert unless you eat veggies first because that just doesn’t jive with my feeding kids philosophy。 That alone would prevent me from buying this one。 Overall, it was really quite cute!

Shows what can make you angry and how to deal with these feelings

A clever take on the learning to control your temper idea。 A dragon makes for a very vivid image when he loses his temper。

First book of the new year, 2021! This is a great book for giving kids (and adults) strategies for what to do when they feel angry。 I loved that it offered multiple ideas!

Cute, humorous book to help "fiery" kids learn to control their anger and frustration。 I love how the story shows the negative consequences of Fergal's tantrums without feeling preachy, and how his family and friends help him learn various ways to calm down。 I think this could work for a lot of families。 The adorable pictures don't hurt either。 Cute, humorous book to help "fiery" kids learn to control their anger and frustration。 I love how the story shows the negative consequences of Fergal's tantrums without feeling preachy, and how his family and friends help him learn various ways to calm down。 I think this could work for a lot of families。 The adorable pictures don't hurt either。 。。。more

Fergal is a very pleasant chap, unless you try and tell him what to do。 And then he gets incredibly angry。 When Fergal gets angry he loses control of his temper and this leads to somewhat fiery situations。 His friends are not impressed with his behaviour and his fiery temper has ruined the football match, burnt delicious cakes and ruined a game。 Can this hot headed little dragon learn to keep his cool…I love Fergal, he is such a brilliant representation of those children who are a little bit hot Fergal is a very pleasant chap, unless you try and tell him what to do。 And then he gets incredibly angry。 When Fergal gets angry he loses control of his temper and this leads to somewhat fiery situations。 His friends are not impressed with his behaviour and his fiery temper has ruined the football match, burnt delicious cakes and ruined a game。 Can this hot headed little dragon learn to keep his cool…I love Fergal, he is such a brilliant representation of those children who are a little bit hot-headed and who have a fiery temper。 After Fergal has upset all of his friends he seeks comfort and advice from his mum and he learns that there is a way to perhaps control his anger。 Fergal realises that everyone gets angry but all of his friends have ways of managing their anger。 Ideas for dealing with anger that feature in the story include; counting to ten, talking to others, focusing on a moment of calm and having a stretch。 The most valuable lesson that Fergal learns is that life is not always fair and that you can not always get what you want。A lovely read that is beautifully illustrated and is essential reading for all those fiery little dragons。Recommended for 4+。 。。。more

A nice one for kids! Good tips to control their anger。

Laura

Great book to start a discussion about how to handle a temper。

Amazing book teaching children how to control their anger through the story of a dragon who breaths fire when he's angry。 The book covers different methods to control anger and presents the positive things that can happen when anger is halted and passion/enthusiasm is harnessed instead! The class teacher at my current placement has used this book with a child who have behaviour/anger difficulties and he responded really well to it! Especially after a topic on 'Zog' by Julia Donaldson。 Amazing book teaching children how to control their anger through the story of a dragon who breaths fire when he's angry。 The book covers different methods to control anger and presents the positive things that can happen when anger is halted and passion/enthusiasm is harnessed instead! The class teacher at my current placement has used this book with a child who have behaviour/anger difficulties and he responded really well to it! I think everyone feels a bit fiery now and then, or that things aren't fair - just like Fergal。 We may not burn our own dinner。 Or the soccer goal。 But we may hurt a few feelings。 So how do we cope when we feel fiery? Lots of ideas are offered in this book - hopefully they will help calm those fiery tempers。 I think everyone feels a bit fiery now and then, or that things aren't fair - just like Fergal。 We may not burn our own dinner。 Or the soccer goal。 But we may hurt a few feelings。 So how do we cope when we feel fiery? Fergal definitely numbers among the elite group of Cutest Dragons Ever。 That "sorry not sorry" look he wears upon his face on the front cover says it all。 Fergal definitely numbers among the elite group of Cutest Dragons Ever。 That "sorry not sorry" look he wears upon his face on the front cover says it all。 。。。more

Fergal has trouble controlling his temper。 He is constantly yelling “It’s not fair!” and then setting things on fire。 After a while, his friends don’t want to play with him anymore。 His mom explains to him that the consequences of his temper aren’t fair to the other kids。 She recommends that the next time he gets fiery, he count to 10。 And it works! An excellent book on acting out and what happens when you are not controlling your temper。 Fergal has a very short fuse。 One little slight and he blows fire。 And that fire burns up his toys, his friend's toys, the town's soccer net, and even his supper and treats。 Finally his friends have had enough and they start avoiding him。 Can you blame them?

I wonder if there is so much UK slang in this because we are in Singapore?

This is a book that discusses calming strategies for when tempers flare - counting to 10, etc。。。Amusing illustrations of the destruction Fergal causes when he gets mad。
